Sound Radio has been running in the Hackney area over the last 8 years and was the brainchild of Lol Gellor, now CEO of Sound Vision Trust and Karen Merkel.
Sound Radio was part of a pilot scheme being run in the United Kingdom by the Radio Authority to create a viable third tier of radio that complements the public service and commercial radio sectors in the country.
As a commitment to access to media for those who are currently underrepresented in the media, Sound Radio has formed links with various groups to provide a multilingual and multicultural radio station that reflects, as far as is possible, the make up of the East London community to whom we broadcast on the AM/MW band.
We have, English, Spanish, Kurdish, Bengali, Polish, African, Portugese, Latin American, Chinese, Jewish, Mauritian, Acoli, Music, Chat & Debate programmes on air at present and other exciting programmes in the pipeline due to go on air soon.
