The foregoing audio files are recordings of the opening statements of the various candidates standing in Hackney and attending the Equality and Diversity Hustings held at the Hackney Empire Hospitality Suite on the 26th April 2006. In the case of the Green Party candidate who was not able to attend the statement is read by a Sound Radio station announcer.
Sound Radio is happy to present an impartial record of the day for those that were not able to attend. In the first instalment we present the position statements of the various candidates. We hope to provide further edited highlights of the day over the days leading up to the local elections.

Our intrepid reporter and presenter Akheem talks to Hackney Mayor Jules Pipe during the “I LOVE HACKNEY” campain.
Hackney has named the 14th February “I Love Hackney” day, a campaign to promote safer, cleaner streets and recycling.
The launch took place in the Hackney Town Hall square and featured children’s entertainment and live music. Residents got a chance to say why they love Hackney and made a Valentine’s Day pledge to the borough, such as recycle more. The Mayor talks about the future plans for Hackney and it’s residents.
